Youth 2000 NY Retreat 07/25/2007
Held July 20-22 at Kellenberg Memorial HS in Uniondale, NY. Thanks to Cool Matt for the awesome video and photos and to Sam, Colleen, and Jonathan & Maria for all other photos! And check out Cool Matt's video of the whole thing (set to great music)... FRIDAY, JULY 20: We met at the St. Al's parking lot and left at around 11... Traveling together in our luxuriously appointed 15-passenger van complete with a special chauffeur (a.k.a. Fr. Jakub) Stopped for lunch at a random park somewhere in Staten Island (check out Anne's Hollywood Hair). Our picnic lunch's entertainment was provided by Mia's shoes (above) and a battle between Fr. Jakub and a particularly combative snail/slug/helmeted garden creature (as Colleen said: "Look, Father! You're both bald!"). We arrived mostly in time for the beginning (Matt Loboda speaking). (Most of) the gang. We listened to some speakers (here is Fr. Anthony Marie Ozele from Nigeria)...and then... The Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (a.k.a. Jesus coming out to chill with us)... ...followed by prayer and Adoration... By day's end, we were ready to cut loose and relax, S.A.L.T.-style! There was no better place than the parking lot...with no lights... Padre in the midst of usurping the remains of Colleen's sub. Try to find Jonathan in these pictures (approximate difficulty level on a scale of 1 to 10: 15) Finally: bedtime... Mia's 5-star setup, replete with comfy air mattress, pink-and-lavender-heart sheets, and customized headboard. SATURDAY, JULY 21: Began with breakfast at 8 a.m., morning prayers at 9 a.m., and an international Rosary immediately afterwards. Bananas make Colleen happy. After the Rosary, we listened to Msgr. MacDonald and then went into small groups. There was also Mass, which Fr. Jakub concelebrated: Mass was followed by lunch, a Grassroots Films screening, some free time, which was spent throwing a football around (Jonathan, Jill, Matt Abbate), napping (Padre), lounging around (everyone else), and pretending to be in the jungle (crazy people): Because the parking lot is our playground, we had Rita's Ice, coffee, jokes with Fr. Terry (far right), and lots of fun scratching up Colleen's car with our belt buckles (oh wait...that was only Fr. Jakub). The evening was spent with a Eucharistic procession around the (beautiful) Kellenberg campus and a prayer vigil afterwards. Lights out at 12:30. But who needs lights when we've got Twizzlers, nighttime buffoonery, and Maria's giggles? SUNDAY, JULY 22: Our last day. Breakfast was again at 8 a.m.--we talked and said goodbye to Colleen, who left waaay too early... Next came the Rosary, some speakers, the Restoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Mass, a vocation altar call, testimonials, and more music. Hello, Jesus. Ikaika and Robbie, Padre's nephews. The Restoration of the Blessed Sacrament Fr. Jakub concelebrating Sunday Mass... We ended the day with a semi-nun run, lunch, and a drive home... Carnival 2007 07/25/2007
Father's Day 2007 07/15/2007
Father's Day with S.A.L.T was calm (mostly...Colleen was there, after all) and simple. We had a building contest, a talk from Fr. Jakub and Colleen, and had sundaes afterwards... Last meeting of the year... 06/25/2007
SALT's last day for the 2006-2007 school year! We watched a slideshow Colleen made of all the year's photos, saw a video previewing the Youth 2000 retreat, said goodbye to our seniors, Cassie and Stephanie...and...danced? Our first SALT video--yeeeeeah. Colleen and Frank were having a Cotton-Eyed Joe dance-off (watch Frank "smite" Colleen with his side-to-side moves). Pictures will be coming soon! SNOWBALL FIGHT! 06/14/2007
On June 3, we welcomed next year's freshmen at a special "open house"--we played games, got to know each other, had a crazy indoor "snowball fight" (snowballs were made of pantyhose and flour), and had Rita's Ice afterwards. An awesome time! Yup, we're that exciting. Relays! The races involved a Powerpoint, fill-in-the-blanks, and Twizzlers. After the relays, we played Sharks & Minnows... When we finished playing Sharks & Minnows...THE SNOWBALLS CAME! ...When the snowball hostilities calmed down, we chilled with some Rita's Ice. NJ Catholic Youth Rally @ Six Flags 06/07/2007
S.A.L.T. attended the NJ Catholic Youth Rally on May 20, which was held right in Jackson, at Six Flags! Youth groups from all over the state were there, as were all of the bishops in the state. Getting together by the parish office... Waiting for El Toro. Jackie and Amanda! Look at Jonathan saying something meaningful. With Daffy... ...and Tweety! Which is scarier: the ride, or the camera? Nice hat, Holly! The gang with Joe the Security Guy (who did not eject us!) At Mass. This nun gives Sister Act a run for its money... Thanks to Christal and Sam for the great pictures! Mother's Day 06/07/2007
Our May 13 meeting celebrated our moms! We had games, food, and prayed a decade of the rosary in the church (or "chapel", as some of us call it...). With (most of) our moms. Matt & Gerri Sam & Mary. Carmela & GQ. Marina & Dan (who, interestingly enough, is NOT a mom). Kyle & Renee Lauren & Karen. Tomas & Millie Karlee & Kari Mickey & Cassie. Mia & Gloria. Steven, Stephanie, & Denise. Andrew, Christal, & Holly. Christal & Amanda. Milk & Donuts 06/07/2007
Pictures from our meeting on March 25. Which consisted of milk and donuts, if you couldn't tell from the title. Three rounds of a donut-eating contest! "Look, Ma, no hands!" Fr. Chef, a stylin' apron, and a loony-looking assistant cook. ...or maybe this is the loony assistant cook! (We love you, Colleen) Where In The World Is Father Jakub? 06/07/2007
S.A.L.T's meeting on April 22 consisted of games, a screening of The Incredibles, ...and a stand-in for Fr. J, who was away in Austria. Inspector Wood was on the case... ...as were his three lovely assistants. We put out a global missing person alert... ...and sightings (blindfolded sightings) were reported via Pin the Priest on the Map. The reported sightings. Sam eventually "found" him (she was the closest, anyway--she ended up in Poland). Oddly, Fr. Jakub showed up with the most interesting hairdos... Martha's was the most...shall we say...uncanny! And then Father went on to remind us of something very important: "Recycling is very good for each and every one of us." Check out the wedding ring on "Fr. Jakub". ;-) Diocesan Youth Conference! 06/07/2007
On Sunday, March 11, 2007, S.A.L.T. attended the Diocesan Youth Conference held at Georgian Court University. We spent the day listening to speakers, going to talks, in prayer, playing games, and attending Mass with Bishop Smith (Fr. Jakub concelebrated along with other priests from the diocese). We met up at St. Al's at 8:30 a.m.... Arrived at Georgian Court University by 9 a.m.... Sang some songs and listened to a couple of speakers... Had lunch! After Eucharistic Adoration, we played a few games with the other teen groups. Vincent and Andrew assisted during Mass with the Bishop! Mass with Bishop Smith (that's Fr. Jakub on the left and Andrew on the right, holding the book). Maria, Dave, and Lauren after Mass. Cassie with her St. Timothy Award.
